Bonnie Tyler will sing "Total Eclipse of the Heart" during the solar eclipse

She'll be backed by Joe Jonas' band DNCE for a special performance aboard Royal Caribbean's Total Eclipse Cruise

It had to happen.

Bonnie Tyler will perform her 1983 hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart" during the solar eclipse, set to occur across the US on 21 August, while onboard Royal Caribbean's Total Eclipse Cruise.

"The eclipse of the sun lasts two minutes and 40 minutes, I'm told," she told TIME. "Unlike my song. It had to be chopped about because it was so long. I never thought it would be played on the radio, in the beginning."

The week-long cruise on the Oasis of the Seas will depart from Orlando on 20 August and head for the Caribbean; it will be perfectly positioned in the path of totality for the eclipse, and for Tyler's performance, which will see her backed by Joe Jonas' band DNCE.

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" was one of the most successful records of the '80s, selling six million copies and getting nominated for multiple Grammys; it's also, of course, become something of a karaoke favourite. Spotify even reported a 75 percent increase in streams the day after last year's March total solar eclipse.

When asked whether's she worried about getting seasick, Tyler replied simply: "I have a ship of my own. I go with the flow, darling. I'm not worried about things like that."
