Perhaps the first 'Westboro Baptist Church selfie'
Perhaps the first 'Westboro Baptist Church selfie' (Brad Paisley)

Country musician Brad Paisley took the high road when the Westboro Baptist Church turned out in force with their 'God hates' signs at one of his concerts, taking a selfie with them and promising to play loud enough so that they could hear.

Of all the 'sins' in the world as Westboro sees it, you probably wouldn't expect country music to be one of them, but protest they did at his Kansas show on Sunday.

It would have been easy to engage with the notoriously bigoted church and end up in a heated and completely abortive debate with them, but Paisley instead stopped by the side of the road for a quick selfie to highlight their absurdity.

"Westboro Baptist Selfie!! Or west-Burro(ass) selfie. Hopefully they can hear the show out here. We'll play loud." He wrote on Twitter.

Known for their homophobia and anti-Semitism, the WBC regularly picket private events including the funerals of soldiers and shooting victims, and they have also protested at numerous concerts including those of Lorde and Lady Gaga.

Its pastor Fred Phelps dided in March, with the church deciding not to hold a funeral.
