Brandon Flowers finally admits last Killers album was no Hot Fuss: 'It wasn't good enough'

Battle Born came out in 2012 and failed to bring us a 'Mr Brightside' rival

Brandon Flowers has finally admitted that no song on the last Killers album came close to rivalling “Mr Brightside”.

The Las Vegas frontman releases his second solo album The Desired Effect on 18 May, a move that many fans fear spells the end of his stadium-filling rock band.

But the speculation is unfounded, as Flowers believes there are more Killers records to come, so long as the group get a much needed “kick in the pants” and “a little bit of that drive and that hunger back”.

“Once we all get on the same page, it’ll work. I need to persuade them to like the same things as I do!” he told NME, adding that their 2012 effort Battle Born “wasn’t good enough” and “[they] all know it”.

Flowers insists that guitarist Dave Keuning has “really shown a new interest” in the band, while drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr is more philosophical about their future.

“I don’t fear the end of The Killers – if it’s over, it’s over,” he said. “We scratch those [creative] itches [with side projects]. I get a good feeling knowing Brandon is out there doing that too. I hope the other two [Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer] do it. It gets weird sometimes when we start talking about our shit with the other two.”

Flowers will play six UK shows this month, starting in Brixton on 21 May and ending in Birmingham on 28 May.
