Alternative metal band Bring Me the Horizon have expressed their “horror” after “hearing about the death of a young man at our show last night.”

BMTH played at London’s Alexandra Palace on Friday night, the venue posting on Twitter the next day: “A medical incident occurred at last night’s Bring Me The Horizon concert. Our thoughts and condolences are with the individual’s family and we would like to express our deepest sympathy to them. We hope you can appreciate we cannot provide any further comment at this time.”

On Sunday, a spokesperson for Alexandra Palace told The Independent: "Following the statement made last night, we would like to clarify that this was a tragic medical incident and unrelated to the extensive security measures in place at all of or our events. However, we feel we must address the inaccurate information quoted on social media. There were over 150 security personnel on site for the concert.

"Alexandra Palace has an experienced events team with security and full medical team stationed throughout the site. We work closely with our local authority, licensing and the emergency services to ensure that regulations and requirements relating to the planning of an event are always executed to a high standard."

“Words cannot express how horrified we are feeling this evening after hearing about the death of a young man at our show last night,” Bring Me the Horizon tweeted. “Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones at this terrible time. We will comment further in due course.”

It is not yet known how the fan died, but eyewitness reports claim a man named “Ali” was carried out of the crowd at the 10,000-capacity venue by security.

In since-deleted tweets, Griffin Dickinson – frontman of SHVPES and son of Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson – wrote (via AllThingsLoud): “Last night at a BMTH show I saw a kid die. He was carried out by 3 dudes & paramedics tried to resuscitate him to no avail. Please please please look out for people around you.”
