Five people have been injured during a shooting incident at a Chris Brown gig in California, police said.

The singer was performing at a nightclub in the San Francisco Bay Area when shots rang out, forcing the gig to be abandoned as security personnel ushered Brown away.

San Francisco police said the incident occurred at 1.20am on Sunday morning, and that “several” people had been detained.

Four people were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds while a fifth was admitted to accident and emergency later in the day. Police said all five were in a stable condition.

While police were unable to provide further details as to a motive for the shooting, video footage posted online via social media appeared to show the incident in the middle of one of Brown’s songs.

In one mobile phone video, posted to the singer’s own Vine profile, he can be seen drawing attention to something going on in the crowd seconds before shots ring out.

Brown winces without looking away, before members of his entourage intervene.

Police confirmed that the Grammy-winner escaped the incident unharmed.
