Chynna Rogers, a rapper and model who performed with A$AP Rocky’s hip-hop collective A$AP Mob, has died at the age of 25.

Rogers’ family released a statement on Wednesday (8 April) announcing her death, a cause for which has not been revealed. They said: “Chynna was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.”

Rogers first signed with Ford Models at the age of 14. A year later, she approached the rapper A$AP Yams on Twitter and asked to be his intern.

With his encouragement, she began releasing singles and performing with A$AP Mob, including at the South by Southwest music festival. Her songs have been streamed millions of times on Spotify.

Rogers was best known for the songs “Selfie” and “Glen Coco”. Her final release was the EP in case i die first in December of last year.

Throughout her career, Rogers was open about her struggles with opiate addiction. She said of her album Ninety: "A lot of it was written at the darkest times of my opiate use. I saw sides of myself that I otherwise would have never seen. They're not sides that are particularly good, but sides that you need to see to know what you're capable of.”

In her final Instagram post on Tuesday (7 April), Rogers shared a video saying: “I think there’s too many soundtracks to our lives. I need music to die to.”

The news has shocked the hip-hop world, which has seen the deaths of several young rappers in recent years, including Juice WRLD, who died in December of an accidental drug overdose at 21, and A$AP Yams, one of Rogers’ mentors, who died at 26 in 2015 of accidental drug intoxication.

Kehlani and A$AP Mob are among those to pay tribute to Rogers.

“Chynna you were f***in hilarious bro,” wrote Kehlani on Twitter. “Today was our last exchange of jokes & those i will miss the most. I can’t believe it idk how to. i love you. so very much. my heart is officially iced.”

A$AP Mob added: “REST EASY CHYNNA. WE GON MISS U SIS.”

"Anyone that ever was blessed enough to have met or been around chynna knew how pure of a soul she was," said Lil Debbie. "Loving, giving, humble, talented, an amazing human being. What a sad f***ing day.

Rogers’ mother, Wendy Payne, died at the age of 51 in 2017. The rapper is survived by her father, Michael Magness; two brothers, Jeremy Payne and Michael Magness; and sister, Nala Magness.
