The Cure's Robert Smith gives deadpan response to red carper interviewer

Robert Smith has gone viral with a stunningly deadpan interview, which he gave as The Cure was being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Friday night.

The Cure are among the hall’s 2019 class of inductees, along with Stevie Nicks, Janet Jackson, Def Leppard, The Zombies, Radiohead and Roxy Music.

At one point during the evening at Brooklyn’s Barclays Centre, Smith chatted with an interviewer who asked him just how thrilled he was to be there.

“Congratulations The Cure, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees 2019, are you as excited as I am?” the interviewer asked.

Smith, who kept a straight face throughout the interview, simply responded: “Um, by the sounds of it, no.”

The interviewer laughed and asked him: “Oh, no, what are we going to do?”

Smith continued: “I’m sure we’ll get there eventually. It’s a bit early, isn’t it?”

The segment has drawn attention on Twitter, where many viewers have deemed it “priceless” and “hilarious”.
