Daft Punk's new single 'Get Lucky'

Daft Punk’s new single “Get Lucky” featuring Pharrell Williams has become the most streamed track on Spotify in the UK and US in its first 24 hours of being released.

The song, which was officially released on Friday 19 April, is the first track to be taken from the French duo’s new album Random Access Memories and features N.E.R.D’s Pharrell Williams on vocals.

In the UK, “Get Lucky” beat the previous record for the most streamed record in a 24 hour period held by Bastille for “Pompeii.”

Daft Punk’s new single knocked Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop” off the US top spot for the most streamed song in a day, a record previously held by Justin Timberlake’s “Pusher Love Girl.”

Speaking on-stage about working with Daft Punk at HTC Live New York, Pharrell said: “Man these guys that made this record, they’re like so far beyond their time. I’m honoured to know those guys, those robots.

“Those guys we have a lot of incredible history together. So when they called me over the summer, I just remembered thinking one thing… Try to get lucky right?”

The song sold over 50,000 copies in just 48 hours to get to number three in the UK singles chart. Rudimental’s Waiting All Night featuring Ella Eyre beat the track to the number one spot.

Spotify’s director of label relations Will Hope predicts that Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories will become “one of the biggest, if not the biggest, on Spotify this year”.
