Music fans have been told that two UK concerts by singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen have been switched to a different venue about 75 miles away.

The 77-year-old Canadian was due to play at the Hop Farm venue in Paddock Wood, Kent, on September 8 and 9.

But a statement on the musician's website said that due to "unforeseen circumstances" the shows will now take place on the same dates at Wembley Arena instead.

A spokesman for Hop Farm said they were "disappointed" by the decision to switch venues which they only learned about through a press release from Cohen's agent and promoter.

"Unfortunately we haven't been given any information as to why," the spokesman told the BBC.

"We are really disappointed. We were very much looking forward to welcoming Leonard to Kent."

The statement on the star's website said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, Leonard Cohen's two shows at Hop Farm, Kent, on 8 and 9 September will no longer be taking place at that venue. However, Cohen will now be performing at a new London venue on the same dates.

"Cohen will still bring his much-anticipated Old Ideas World tour to the UK, with the scheduled shows now taking place in the fully-seated and historic Wembley Arena on 8 and 9 September."

Ticket-holders for the Hop Farm concerts were advised to contact their seller for a refund or a new ticket.
