Dua Lipa has issued an apology after a cover where she sand the "n-word" resurfaced.

The pop singer recorded the cover of Mila J's "Smoke, Drink, Break Up" in 2014 but it was recently brought to attention on social media.

During the song, she appears to mutter part of the word on the line "you swear to God you ain't f**king with a n***a", although the audio is distorted to fade the racial epithet.

"In relation to my 2014 cover I never mean to offend or upset anyway," Dua Lipa posted on Twitter.

"I didn't say the full word but I can admit I shouldn't have gone there at all and that a different word could've been recorded altogether to avoid offence and confusion. I wasn't thinking it through at the time."

It was recently announced that Dua Lipa was the most-streamed female artist on Spotify in the UK in 2017.
