Ella Henderson has achieved her first UK number one single with “Ghosts”.

The 18-year-old’s debut release sold more than 132,000 copies, making it the fourth fastest-selling single of the year so far, according to data from the Official Charts Company.

Co-written by OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder, the single knocked Ed Sheeran’s “Sing” off the top of the chart.

Henderson, who first rose to fame in the 2012 series of The X Factor, said it was “insane” to get to work with Tedder, who has previously written tracks for Leona Lewis, Ellie Goulding, Beyonce and Adele

“When you think about the people Ryan works with, it was definitely overwhelming being in the same room as him. He gets to pick and choose who he works with, and to say I got to write my first single with him is insane,” she said.

The singer, from Tetney, Lincolnshire, also beat Tiesto’s new entry “Wasted ft Mattew Koma,”which debuted at number three.

Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” and “Waves” by Mr Probz completed the top five.

Rik Mayall’s ‘lost’ England World Cup song entered the UK top 10 at number seven after a social media campaign to get the track to number one was launched following the comedian’s death last week.

The official Fifa World Cup song “We Are One (Ole Ola)” by Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte entered the UK top 40 at number 29.
