Elvis regains his chart-topping crown

Elvis Presley confirmed his place as the king of pop yesterday when a remix of a forgotten song stormed to the top of the charts.

The success of "A Little Less Conversation" gives Elvis his 18th British number-one hit, surpassing even the Beatles. The song has been remixed by a Dutch DJ called JXL, whose real name is Tom Hokenburg. He was previously known as Junkie XL but, he said, "Elvis's estate did not want any connection with the word junkie."

It is the first time the estate has allowed a remix of one of the singer's recordings, an obscure track that first appeared in one of Elvis's movies and as the B-side to his 1968 single, "Almost in Love". JXL's remix is the most played pre-released tune on radio and the soundtrack to Nike's World Cup advertisement featuring the former Manchester United star Eric Cantona.
