Florence and the Machine set to make live return in October

Florence and the Machine are breaking their live hiatus to make a return to the stage next month.

The band, fronted by Florence Welch, will appear as part of Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit Concert.

Other acts set to perform at the event at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in the Bay Area of California on 25 and 26 October include Pearl Jam, Tom Jones and Soundgarden.

Band of Horses, Norah Jones’ alt-country trio Puss n Boots, and Pegi Young will also appear.

Welch confirmed that she is working on new material for the third Florence and the Machine album earlier this year.

Bridge School Benefit originated in 1986. All proceeds from the concert will go directly towards the operation of the Bridge School, a not-for-profit organisation that aims to improve the standard of living for those with severe physical or speech impairments in their communities.

Tickets for the event will go on sale 19 September.
