Future Islands return to Letterman for first time since 'the dance', play new song The Chase, dedicate it to Baltimore

Future Islands performance of Seasons (Waiting On You) on the Late Show with David Letterman last year was probably the most successful in bands-playing-on-chat-shows history, propelling them into the spotlight thanks to the strength of the single and lead singer Samuel T Herring's silky moves.

They managed to capitalise on it, with the following album Singles being filled with bangers, and this week returned to the show with a brand new single called The Chase.

Letterman couldn't resist a little dance gag, but Herring had more serious matters on his mind.

This song is gonna go out to the people of Baltimore, let us not discount their voices or the voice of all the people in the cities that we live and love," he said, banging his chest and referencing the recent riots in their hometown.

The Chase is a great song and not dissimilar to Seasons or perhaps A Dream of You and Me, and Herring really got into it, at one point falling to his knees and pounding the floor.

The track will presumably feature on a new album, though details on this are scant so far.
