Disappointed fans who bought tickets to Garth Brooks’ cancelled Dublin gigs are being refunded.

The US country singer was set to play five Croke Park concerts from 25 to 29 July, but noise and traffic complaints from local residents put an end to the plans leaving 400,000 fans gutted.

Dublin City Council had granted event licences for three nights but Brooks, 52, decided to perform all five shows or none at all to avoid "choosing one child over another".

The dispute was not resolved, despite ticketing website Ticketmaster delaying refunds in the hope that the gigs would still go ahead.

But the refunding process began earlier today after Brooks issued a statement confirming the cancellations.

Fans will receive an automatic refund plus service charge if they bought tickets online, over the phone or on their mobile.

Those who purchased tickets from Ticketmaster ticket centres need to download and send off a completed refund form and their tickets. Ten days should be allowed for refunds to reach accounts.

People who bought from unauthorised ticket sellers must contact their supplier directly for a refund.

Those involved in the attempt to stage the shows took their argument before an Irish parliament committee yesterday, with Aiken Promotions considering legal action for financial loss.

It was announced yesterday that Brooks will kick off his comeback in Chicago this September.
