Green Day's stage musical American Idiot will head to Broadway in March, the show's producers confirmed Tuesday. The Broadway run will begin with several weeks of previews, followed by an April 20 opening night.

Based on Green Day's 2004 album of the same name, American Idiot focuses on the experiences and angst of a suburban teen. American Idiot premiered at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Berkeley, California, the band's hometown. It ran for eight sold-out weeks from September 15 to November 15, 2009.

American Idiot features music from both the American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown albums. Green Day is credited as writing the music, with lyrics by band frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and book by Armstrong and director Michael Mayer.

Casting for the Broadway show is unconfirmed. The Berkeley run starred John Gallagher Jr., Matt Caplan, Michael Esper, and Tony Vincent.

American Idiot will run at Broadway's St. James Theatre beginning April 20, with preview performances starting March 24.
