Nineties band Garbage has had their twitter account hacked

A prankster took over the Twitter page of nineties band Garbage this morning, sending hundreds of tweets pretending to be lead singer Shirley Manson while under the influence.

Tweets included "Getting a lot of questions about what I'm drinking.  Is it that obvious I'm drunk??? Vanilla Malt and a few coolers :)” and "There will be whipped cream and Shirley for all.”

But the hacker soon began bragging that he was not the flame-haired Scottish singer, posting: “I hacked this stupid mother***ng band and have been f***ing with you for ages!”

The hacker also posted lyrics from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme tune and requested that “really attractive girls” post pictures of themselves for “Shirley” to retweet.

Two hours ago the real Shirley Manson regained control of her Twitter and Facebook accounts, publishing on both: “Hey guys its Shirley... I don't know what to think so I'm just going to take it 1 step at a time. Contacting twitter now. Anyone fill me in?”

She later apologised to “every single one of my fans” adding “The hacker has tweeted hundreds of times and I cannot remove them all. Bear with me Sx.”

Garbage fans responded angrily to the hacked tweets, prompting the person responsible to retaliate with:  “All you people saying I'm dumb. I've made over 19 dollars by spamming ad.fly links. I hack twitters and spam them great money.”

Manson has urged fans not to open links on any tweets from her account and has taken advice to desist using her social media platforms until the security breach has been resolved.
