Hootie & The Blowfish tell the Today Show they are getting back together for a new album and going on tour

Hootie & the Blowfish are getting back together, 13 years after the release of their last studio album.

The American rock band, which formed in 1986 and found fame in the Nineties, announced its upcoming return Monday morning on the Today show.

Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, and Jim Sonefeld told Craig Melvin they're getting the band back together for a new album and a new tour in 2019. You can sign up here for access to the pre-sale.

All four members looked back on their humble beginnings, during which they received thousands of rejections before selling millions of albums, including their immensely successful debut Cracked Rear View in 1994.

The Grammy-winning band told Melvin they decided to reunite for the pleasure of their fans.

They haven't revealed details of their forthcoming album, though dates for their Group Therapy tour have been announced.

Hootie & the Blowfish will begin their tour in May 2019 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

They will travel through North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Texas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Colorado, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Connecticut, and Tennessee, as well as Toronto, Canada.

The tour will wrap up in September 2019 in Columbia, South Carolina.

The band will be joined on stage by the Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies as their special guests.

Hootie & the Blowfish, whose best known tracks include "Hold My Hand", "Let Her Cry" and "Only Wanna Be with You", played a few times in 2016 and in 2017 in South Carolina, their home state.

They performed in Atlanta, Georgia this past July before playing two shows in Charleston, South Carolina in August, but didn't have an extensive touring schedule like the one planned for 2019.

The band released their last album so far, Looking for Lucky, in 2005 before going on hiatus in 2008.
