James Blunt, singer and self-deprecating tweeter, has said he is "amazed and thrilled" to have gotten a call from Glastonbury asking him to headline the festival in place of the Foo Fighters.

He was in full troll mode this morning, @ing both the festival and the Foo Fighters, adding: "Of course I said yes!"

There is absolutely no doubt he is joking, given that it would be a mammoth task for him to stretch 'You're Beautiful' out into a two-hour set, but this didn't stop some people falling for it:

Florence + the Machine are the current favourites to replace the Foo Fighters, though it's possible Fleetwood Mac could step in having just played Isle of Wight Festival at the weekend.

The Foos were forced to pull out after frontman Dave Grohl broke his leg during a concert in Sweden this week. Grohl valiently finished the set, but is in no state to go on and play Glasto, apologising for having to cancel a bunch of upcoming shows in a heartfelt letter to fans.

Update: Florence + The Machine confirmed as replacement
