John Legend dedicates emotional performance to Chrissy Teigen after pregancy loss

John Legend dedicated a performance at the Billboard Music Awards to his wife, Chrissy Teigen, two weeks after the couple experienced pregnancy loss.

Teigen revealed on social media on 1 October that she had suffered a miscarriage, writing about her and Legend’s “deep pain” in the aftermath.

At the annual music awards ceremony, Legend sang “Never Break”, a ballad from his latest album, Bigger Love.

“This is for Chrissy,” Legend said as he introduced his performance.

The lyrics to “Never Break” tell the story of a relationship that endures through hardship.

“Whenever life is hard, we'll never lose our way,” sings Legend, “'cause we both know who we are.”

“We will never break,” goes the chorus. “As the water rises, and the mountains shake, our love will remain.”

Legend and Teigen have two children together, Luna and Miles. Teigen had been candid on social media about the difficulties with her recent pregnancy throughout its early stages.

On October 1, she posted a picture of herself in distress in the immediate aftermath of the pregnancy loss.

“We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before,” Teigen wrote alongside the image.

“We were never able to stop the bleeding and give our baby the fluids he needed, despite bags and bags of blood transfusions. It just wasn’t enough.”
