Festival goers at Latitude were treated to a surprise performance from Ed Sheeran last night, who performed a secret gig on the intimate iArena stage.

The singer-songwriter from Framlingham, Suffolk took to the stage for an hour-long set after alt-J finished their headline show at the Obelisk Arena last night.

Speculation was rife that Sheeran was set to make an appearance at the festival after he was spotted having a drink at nearby pub, The Station Hotel, with former X-Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger during the day.

He confirmed the rumours with a concise tweet saying “iArena, 11pm Latitude” causing a rush of fans to make their way to the venue located deep in the woods of Henham Park, Southwold.

Sheeran took a fun and relaxed approach during the set mashing up his songs with 50 Cent’s "In Da Club" and Iggy Azalea’s "Fancy".

As expected, festival goers were extremely pleased to hear the unexpected announcement:

Sheeran follows in the footsteps of Rudimental and Lily Allen who have both performed unannounced at the festival.

Latitude Festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, continues today with performances from Laura Marling, James Blake, Wolf Alice and Lianne Le Havas.
