He is an unlikely contender to follow in the footsteps of Britney Spears and Celine Dion, but Meat Loaf has confirmed he will be taking up a second Las Vegas residency.

The 66-year-old singer will perform 24 stints of his Rocktellz and Cocktails show at Planet Hollywood, beginning on 13 February, after finishing a theatrical 18-show run there a year ago.

"I had so much fun doing the show in the fall, I couldn't wait to extend my time in Vegas when they asked me to," the “Bat Out of Hell” singer said in a press release.

"For me, the show is more than just another concert because the Rocktellz and Cocktails format allows me to add something different.

"I’m able to bring together music, acting and theatre and do things you can’t normally do when you’re on the road. I get to have a lot of fun, and it definitely shows."

During his high-energy Rocktellz and Cocktails show, the singer mixes personal stories of life as a rock star with performances spanning his four-decade musical career.

Meat Loaf, otherwise known as Marvin Lee Aday, played his final UK show in August last year after announcing his plans to retire from long-haul touring. "This is really it, I just don’t want to travel anymore," he told Reuters.

The musician has suffered several health scares while on-stage, including fainting at New Jersey’s Balloon Festival in 2011 and having to be revived with oxygen in hospital.

Shortly afterwards, Meat Loaf appeared on Piers Morgan Tonight and voiced his wish to die on stage. "I take the stage as if it’s the last thing I’m ever going to do and that’s how I perform every night," he said. "That’s what I’ve always said – if I’m going out, I’m going out on stage."

Pop star Spears is currently booked for a two-year stint in Las Vegas with her Britney: Piece of Me show.

The "Toxic" singer's debut performance received mixed reviews last week, with MTV praising the "blaring beats and rapid-fire dance moves while the New York Times called her "downright listless".
