UK top 40: Meghan Trainor keeps Nicki Minaj off the top spot in the singles chart with 'All About That Bass'

American singer-song writer Meghan Trainor has fought off Nicki Minaj to stay at number one with her upbeat ‘All About That Bass’ in the battle of the “booty songs”.

Nicki Minaj released her song this week but was pushed into third place with her track ‘Anaconda’, which samples Sir Mix-a-Lot’s ‘Baby Got Back’.

The song from her third studio album The Pinkprint sold over 100,000 copies this week but failed to clinch number one.

Jessie J and Ariana Grande remain at Number 2 with Bang Bang.

But Nicki and Meghan weren’t the only ones with “booty songs” in the top 10. Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ is at number four.

The music video to accompany the song has been criticised for being “inherently offensive” and perpetuating black stereotypes and featured women twerking.

Meanwhile in the album charts, George Ezra held fast at number one for a second week with Wanted On Voyage.

The folk-rock record is the debut from the 21-year-old from Hertford and finally reached the top of the album charts after spending 14 weeks in the top 10.

Ed Sheeran has again been climbing with his second album X, which is at number two this week.
