Nico and Vinz first Norwegians to hit UK number one in more than 28 years

After spending five initial weeks in lower levels of the top 100, Norwegian duo Nico and Vinz have scored the UK number one with their second release "Am I Wrong".

They shifted Magic’s "Rude" down one place, and could not be happier to be at the top in the first week of the track’s full release.

They told Official Charts Company after hearing of their victory “Growing up in Oslo, we always dreamed of being at the top of the UK chart, so for this now to be true is completely surreal. We are extremely grateful to you for making that happen and can’t wait to come and play it for you guys live very soon.”

The last Norwegian musical act to storm to the top of the charts were 80s band A-ha with "The Sun Only Shines on TV", which held the top position for two weeks in 1986. Nico and Vinz also join the ranks of Lene Marlin with "Sitting Down Here", Madcon with "Beggin’" and the infamous "The Fox" from Ylvis.

One Republic’s latest release "Love Runs Out" has also broken straight into the high ranks, reaching number three. This week has also seen Cheryl Cole’s "Crazy Stupid Love" fall a further two places down the chart, remaining in the top 5 at number 4. George Ezra’s "Budapest" has also managed scraped a place in the top 5, climbing one place this week to number 5.

In the Official Album Chart, Ed Sheeran has secured his seventh consecutive week at number 1 for his second album, X. This impressive stint at the top is the longest since Adele’s 21 back in 2011. His victory fights Dolly Parton off the top spot for her collection of greatest hits, Blue Smoke.
