Panic! At The Disco donate $1000 to gay rights group after Westboro Baptist Church picket

Panic! At The Disco have pledged to donate $1000 (£568) to a US gay rights campaign after Westboro Baptist Church picketed their show in Kansas City with homophobic slogans.

The band have been victim to abuse by the anti-gay evangelical group since singer Brendon Urie announced he was bisexual.

Panic! At The Disco had promised to donate $20 (£12) to Human Rights Campaign for every member of Westboro Baptist Church that picketed their show on Sunday night.

But only 13 members of the group decided to turn up.

Mocking the small number of protesters, the band said in a tweet they would donate $1,000 rather than the $20 per head they had originally pledged.

They also confirmed they would donate 5 per cent of merchandise sales from the gig to the Human Rights Campaign’s Pride cause.

Westboro Baptist Church claimed a Panic! At The Disco fan tried to run one of their protestors over at the gig car park in Kansas City, tweeting: “What is this Panic At The Disco tripe? They’ll be panic at the second coming of Christ!”

The church, which infamously pickets events wielding slogans that read “God Hates Fags”, previously released a parody of the band’s 2006 single “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” called “You Love Sin What A Tragedy.”
