Paul Simon and Edie Brickell perform the Everly Brothers in coronavirus self-isolation

Paul Simon treated fans to a duet of an Everly Brothers classic with wife Edie Brickell during the coronavirus lockdown.

The former Simon & Garfunkel musician shared a video to YouTube as he performed a stunning rendition of “I Wonder If I Care As Much” with his wife of 27 years, the singer-songwriter Brickell.

Standing against a plain wall, the couple performed a stripped back cover of the 1957 song, expertly harmonising as Simon, 78, strummed on his acoustic guitar.

It’s not the first video the singer has posted from lockdown to keep morale high – he also shared a live acoustic version of “All I Have To Do Is Dream” with Woody Harrelson, as well as his own songs “American Tune” and “The Boxer”.

Simon dedicated the latter video to the people of New York, telling the camera: “Hello my friends. I send you my love and concern and I dedicate this song to my fellow New Yorkers.”

The musician's native city is the epicentre of the US's Covid-19 outbreak, with New York Governer Andrew Cuomo predicting last week that the virus’s peak will hit the city at the end of April.

As of Monday, 4,758 people have died of coronavirus in New York.
