Pokemon Go leads to live-action Pokemon movie from Guardians of the Galaxy writer

The Gravity Falls writer is also in talks

Legendary seems to be fast-tracking its live-action Pokémon film in the wake of Pokémon Go’s immense success and is reportedly in negotiations for it with Marvel and Disney screenwriters.

Universal Pictures will handle worldwide distribution, Legendary having won the rights to the Pokémon franchise in July - a couple of weeks after the game-changing app was launched.

The movie isn’t expected to be based on Pokémon Go in any way though, according to Variety, but rather is an adaptation of the Detective Pikachu games.

No plot details have been released, but the original game centred on Pikachu helping a young boy find his father.

Nicole Perlman is one screenwriter in talks, having cut her teeth on Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor and working on the upcoming Captain Marvel, the other is Alex Hirsch, the man behind Disney’s Gravity Falls.

The pair are interesting choices and suggest a comedic inflection, Hirsch having worked on Rick and Morty and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.

The Detective Pikachu film doesn’t have a title, release date or cast as yet.
