Grime fans have been retweeting a bid by rapper Stormzy to be the next Prime Minister.
Current PM David Cameron announced that he will be stepping down in October to make way for “fresh leadership” after the UK voted for a Brexit on Thursday. Boris Johnson and Theresa May are the favourites to succeed Cameron but, as the world woke up to confusion and uncertainty on Friday, another contender stepped up.
“How many retweets do I need to become Prime Minster,” Stormzy posted on Twitter, to the tune of 13,000 retweets and counting in under 15 minutes as the hashtag #StormzyForPrimeMinister picked up steam.
Stormzy has been outspoken about his political views before, most memorably when he called out the “embarrassing” Brit Awards organisers for failing to represent grime and underground artists earlier this year. He went on to have a “proper chat” with the chairman to discuss how to make the awards more diverse.

He aired his views on the recent London mayoral election too, albeit by branding Conservative candidate Zac Goldsmith a “proper p***yhole”. Soon afterwards, he was followed by Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. “My man Jeremy! Young Jeremy, my guy. I dig what he says,” he told the Guardian in May. “I feel he gets what the ethnic minorities are going through and the homeless and the working class.”
With some fans already sharing a campaign poster for Stormzy, Boris had better watch his back.
