Tributes have been paid to The Overtones singer Timmy Matley after his death aged 36.

The Cork-born performer - lead singer with the five-piece vocal harmony group - was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2016, but his cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Since the news was confirmed, tributes have flooded in from Matley's bandmates, fans and friends.

The Overtones said in a statement: "It is with the greatest sadness that we have to announce that our dear friend and brother Timmy has passed away.

"We know this news will be as heartbreaking for you all as it is for us. We appreciate your love and support at this difficult time. Mike, Darren, Mark & Lachie x."

Phillip Schofield tweeted: "I am so terribly sorry to hear this and sending lots of love to you all and particularly Timmy's family and his so many friends."

Presenter Rylan Clark-Neal said: "Awful news. Sending love x #RipTimmy."

Gogglebox and I'm A Celebrity star Scarlett Moffatt added: "Such sad news. Sending all my love to you all, friends and family."

The Overtones are a platinum-selling doo-wop group who have toured with Cliff Richard and appeared on several ITV entertainment shows.

They claimed to be discovered by a Warner Bros A&R while singing on their tea break, when they worked as decorators in a shop near Oxford Street in London.

Their debut album Good Ol' Fashioned Love reached No.16 in the UK albums chart on its release in 2010, but later peaked at No.4 when it was reissued in March 2011. To date it has sold more than 500,000 copies.
