Vengaboys performed for demonstrators in Austria after their hit “We’re Going To Ibiza” was resurrected as a chart-topping protest hit.
The band’s four members accepted an invitation by protestors to perform in Vienna and brought the city to a standstill after parking their Vengabus on Ballhausplatz in front of the Federal Chancellery for a performance of the song that hit number one last week.
Earlier this month, a damaging video was released showing vice chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache in Ibiza, allegedly offering lucrative government contracts to a purported Russian investor in return for political support.
Strache has since resigned and, on Monday, the country’s government collapsed as parliament passed a no-confidence vote .
Dutch band Vengaboys’ song has since been used by anti-government protestors after its video was posted on Twitter by German comedian Jan Bohmermann.

Vengaboys’ Captain Kim commented last week: “‘We’re Going To Ibiza’ as a protest song in Austria! They could’ve picked almost any Bob Dylan song. That shows us that the Austrians have great taste in music, and in spite of the magnitude of the scandal, they also have a great sense of humour.”
“We’re Going To Ibiza” was originally released in 1999 and reached number one in the UK charts.
