"Wonderwall" is the best British song of all time; at least, so say the listeners of Radio X.

More than 50,000 votes were cast for the music station's inaugural Best of British poll (via RadioToday); which saw Oasis utterly dominate the results, occupying all four of the top positions. "Don't Look Back in Anger" came in at number two, "Champagne Supernova" at three, and "Live Forever" at four.

Fans of any other brand of the nation's music must wait until the fifth entry for their fill, and The Stone Roses' "I Am The Resurrection"; followed by the likes of the Arctic Monkeys, The Verve, and David Bowie. The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" just made it at number 10. Surprisingly, The Beatles didn't even crack the top ten; with "Hey Jude" coming in at number 13 and "A Day In The Life" down at number 19.

The poll also revealed how its presenters voted; DJ Chris Moyles plumping for Coldplay's "Viva La Vida", while Vernon Kay backed The Sex Pistols' "Anarchy in the UK"; which is probably what the band's fans will be threatening after hearing The Sex Pistols failed to crack the top 20.
