Song tackles the ‘normalisation’ of oppression

Bring Me the Horizon have released a new collaboration with Yungblud that addresses the “normalisation” of oppression.

“Obey” was written by the Sheffield-formed band, who reached out to Yungblud (real name Dominic Harrison) and asked him to add vocals to the song.

It marks the third single of the first EP from BMTH’s Posthuman series, following “Parasite Eve”.

BMTH frontman Oli Sykes told The Independent: “We’d been working on the track for about two days, and I reached out to YB to ask whether he’d like to be on the track, to which he responded pretty much immediately with a yes. The track wasn’t even finished at this stage but he felt the energy of what we were looking to achieve and was connected to my lyrics and went straight to the studio.

“It’s been one of the most organic and authentic collaborations, and everything that we’ve done from the video to the photo shoot has been easy and really fun,” he added.

Yungblud said: “Bring Me the Horizon were a big part of my life growing up. I had a hard time for the way I looked and expressed myself and I would listen to them at the bus stop when it used to get a little too much.

“They helped me through a lot of s*** because i would say to myself, ‘They’re from the same place as me, they have the same ideologies as me but they’re celebrated for it... I’m going to be like that one day.”

Yungblud has released three other singles this year, including “Lemonade”, a collaboration with US rapper Denzel Curry.

Bring Me the Horizon released their latest album, the Grammy-nominated Amo, in 2019.
