Album review: Alexis Taylor, Nayim From The Halfway Line (Domino)

Judging by this latest EP, Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor values productivity rather more highly than quality.

The best bits are meagre pickings: jazzy electric piano chords try to impose a smoother swing on the rigid dog-leg rhythm of "Rhodes Dream", while Taylor's falsetto haunts the piece like the missing link between Lil Louis and The Weeknd; and "Hot Squash" whips up a passable blend of squelchy synth figures, wah-wah riff, splashes of percussion and vocoder title-chant. But both "You Want Me" and the nine-minute "Jesus' Birthday" meander purposelessly.
