Finally, maverick genius Sly Stone receives due respect in this four-disc retrospective, as the leader of rock's first multi-racial, multi-gender, multi-genre band, Most interesting is when the high-energy dance-pop ("Dance To The Music", etc) was replaced by the politicised There's A Riot Goin' On and Fresh, mapping out the future of funk.
There are also rarities from Sly's time at Autumn Records, and alternative takes, notably The French Fries' "Danse A La Musique", a French version that's even more infectious than the breakout original.
