The poster-boy of West Country folk recorded either in a mine or at a place called the Barrelhouse in Morwhellham Quay in Devon.

The songs are local too, "exploring the lives of West Country craftsmen and artisans". You might say that the album constitutes a sort of application to join their number. Lakeman writes, sings, plays, produces and mixes, which may or may not explain the rather dry, stoney sound of the album and the rhythmic forthrightness of the playing.
