Q&A with Steven A. Clark

Which artists have you been listening to recently?

Most recently I've been listening to Michael Jacksons "Bad" Album. To me it's his best album. Love that he wanted to top "Thriller" which was a brave move. Him and Quincy jones really went for it and gave us a masterpiece. Also the new Tame Impala album "Currents" is great. The production is amazing and it's a really cohesive project.

What do you mean when you describe North Carolina as ‘artistically suppressed”?

I love NC it's my home, but in comparison to the major cities of the world it lacks because there's no industry or major avenues for creative people. You can find some great schools there and get a degree in many different art forms, but for many creative people there there's just this guy feeling that you'll never make it in if you stay there. Although, now with the Internet it's more possible than ever to make it from anywhere you are in the world. You just have take advantage of that and keep putting yourself out there. Once I realized the world is way bigger than Fayetteville it changed my whole perspective.

What was your first gig, and what’s been your best so far?

My first gig was in Miami many years ago. Looking back I can't even believe was even brave enough or drunk enough to do it. My fav gig so far has been in London at the waiting room. I think it's because it was my first time in Europe which was dream come true and everyone I met was great. The show went as well as it could have. The crowd was really into it. And I reluctantly had a salt beef bagel which is one of the greatest things I've tasted in my life.
