Flight attendants offer three-act drama performance in bid to fight plane boredom
When it comes to transatlantic trips, in-flight movies are pretty much a human right by this point, with even those who are ambivalent to cinema found plugged in for a triple feature of blockbusters, tiny wine in hand.
Icelandair wants to try and broaden the cultural experience on flights however, and will be holding a "three-act performance" on a London to New York route performed by the flight attendants no less.
"We’ll transport passengers from our beginnings in 1937 right through to the future, with incredible performances hosted by, and starring, Icelandair staff," it promised.
"We have always been very customer orientated and we are trying to create an experience for them," said the airline's CEO Birkir Hólm Guðnason.
"The staff and my co-workers would like to participate in that and we really want to have them as a part of it – to create a better experience and to give the passengers more value for their time.”
Act 1 of 'Flight Theater' will take place on the London to Keflavík, Iceland flight, 2 in the club lounge in Keflavík airport and 3 on the Keflavík to New York flight.
The initiative was designed in response to a survey on passenger boredom on planes which reported cabin crew can make or break a journey.
Icelandair is offering people the chance to win a seat on the flight plus accommodation and spending money on its website.
