Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley will feature in JK Rowling’s upcoming play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The author announced the news by posting a picture of the key characters’ wand designs on her official Twitter page, much to the excitement of her seven million plus followers.

The play’s plot is being kept under wraps but we do know that it follows Harry and Ginny’s son Albus as he starts at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The production will see an adult Harry, an Auror working for the Ministry of Magic in early middle-age, “grapple with his past” in relation to his Albus’ struggle with “a family legacy he never wanted”.

To date, there had been no mention of Ginny in the cast list, and the actress playing her has yet to be revealed. However, this latest news confirms that the popular character is still alive and kicking 19 years after the events of final Potter book, The Deathly Hallows.

Jamie Parker, Paul Thornley and Noma Dumezweni will play Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Grainger respectively, with the lead characters having aged into their thirties.

Previews for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child begin at London’s Palace Theatre on 7 June, with the opening performances of Part One and Part Two taking place on Saturday 30 July.
