The artist, comedian, actor, musician, painter and DJ has an exhibition of watercolours ‘He Wore Dreams Around Unkind Faces’ running at London’s Maison Bertaux Gallery for two months.

Sunday

I watched two documentaries, one on Michelangelo and one on Raphael – I couldn’t take the Raphael one too seriously though as the actor playing him in the reconstructions looks like a friend of mine and it kept cracking me up.

Monday

Watched a documentary about Joy Division on BBC iplayer then dug out all my Joy Division albums and listened to them on repeat.

Tuesday

Watched the docu-film about Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Dune (the greatest film never made).

Wednesday

I bought Jodorowsky’s autobiography The Dance of Reality, and also dug out Dali’s book The Secret Life of Salvador Dali. I thought I’d try to read them simultaneously.

Thursday

I took my family to see Sunny Afternoon, a musical about The Kinks, for my dad’s birthday (he’s also called Ray) and it reminded me just how many amazing songs they’ve got.

Friday

In the evening I watched an episode of Italy Unpacked.

Saturday

Spent some of today reading Vasari’s Lives of the Artists. This wasn’t the first time I’d been educating myself on the subject of Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo. I’d watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back in the 1980s.
