Yesterday (6 November) marked 15 years since the first ever episode of TV series 24 was aired in the US.

The action thriller, led by Kiefer Sutherland's protagonist Jack Bauer, followed the fictional CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit) with each season comprising one day of action, each episode serving as an hour in that day.

24 initially ran for eight seasons, returning with a ninth outing - Live Another Day - in 2014. Despite the later seasons not receiving as much critical acclaim as the earlier ones, the series was always notable for introducing memorable supporting characters ranging from their presidents (including Palmer, Logan and Taylor) to CTU directors (including George Mason, Bill Buchanan and Brian Hastings).

Variety asked the series' executive producers to select their favourite moments from each of the nine instalments; you can find highlights of their choices below.

Day One

Manny Coto: “11 p.m. – 12 a.m.” Jack’s wife dies! A shocking, devastating finale that enshrines “24” as a show that goes where others fear to tread.

Day Two

Day Three

Day Four

Day Five

Day Six

Day Seven

Day Eight

Live Another Day

Another continuation, this one titled 24: Legacy, is premiering in the US on 5 February after the Super Bowl; it'll focus on another character altogether, this one played by Corey Hawkins most recently seen in Straight Outta Compton and The Walking Dead.
