American Horror Story's Murder House was available to rent on Airnbnb

The 'historical monument' has also featured in The X-Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer

If you were an American Horror Story fan scouring Airbnb for potential places to stay on your next trip last week, you could have been in for one hell of a treat: the show's famous Murder House was available to rent.

The LA-based mansion - the setting for the horror anthology's first season - was listed on the site for $1,450 a night (that's £1,023). Variety states the building can accommodate over 16 people with its nine bedrooms and four bathrooms.

The listing was reported to have read: “One of the most important estates ever built in Los Angeles, The Alfred Rosenheim Mansion was declared a historical monument and cultural landmark. built in 1908, this stunning architectural masterpiece boasts original features throughout."

It failed to mention the mansion has also appeared on numerous TV shows. Besides American Horror Story, it has also featured in The Twilight Zone, The X-Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

The first season of American Horror Story followed the Harmon family - led by Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott - who move into the house unaware it's inhabited by the ghosts of those who have previously been killed there.

Murder House made a one-scene appearance in the show's latest season, Hotel - one of the only few times the show has revealed each standalone season exists within the same universe.
