Zack Snyder has posted a teaser photo of the Batman vs Superman Batmobile, covered with a black tarpaulin bar the two back wheels.

The US director, 48, tweeted the dark image yesterday evening with the caption: “Could be time to pull the tarp…tomorrow?”

Whether or not fans will see the Caped Crusader’s iconic vehicle in full before the movie remains to be seen, but it seems to have a long front with hints of Christopher Nolan’s Tumbler from The Dark Knight trilogy – just to please everyone.

Patrick Tatopoulos, known for his work on 300: Rise of an Empire, has designed the new car, Variety reports.

The upcoming sequel to Man of Steel stars Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman, with Jesse Eisenberg playing arch nemesis Lex Luthor and Israeli actress Gal Gadot in the role of Wonder Woman.

A planned Justice League movie, also directed by Snyder, is also in the pipeline but it has not yet been confirmed which characters will appear.

Last summer, Man of Steel was one of the biggest hits, grossing over $290 million at the US box office. But when the casting for Batman vs Superman was announced, fans were unimpressed.

Affleck was not a popular choice for Batman and the decision to select him as Christian Bale’s successor garnered a great deal of criticism.

Eisenberg was deemed too boyish for the role of Luthor and concerns were raised that Gadot was "too skinny" to play Wonder Woman.

Snyder responded to the outrage in an effort to reassure comic book fans. “I understand the canon, I’m not crazy. I know what these characters need from a mythological standpoint,” he told Hero Complex.

“We’re casting according to what’s happening in the script. Fans don’t know the material. Some people are hating to hate.”

Fans can expect Batman vs Superman in cinemas come May 2016, but the film’s final title has not been revealed.
