The Big Bang Theory is headed for a double whammy of geekdom in a special Star Wars episode.

Lucasfilm has teamed up with the show’s producers for a Star Wars episode in time for Star Wars day.

The episode, entitled “The Proton Transmogrification”, will see the gang get together to celebrate the annual geek holiday.

Sheldon is guided by visions of his childhood idol and mentor, Professor Proton, who appears to the socially challenged genius as his own Jedi master.

The special episode will also feature Dagobah, the remote world of swamps and forest that served as refuge for Yoda during his exile, with the help of a special effects team from Lucasfilm.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the characters will wear special Star Wars t-shirts, and use a number of props from the famous film franchise including light sabers.

Fans mark Star Wars day every year on 4 May, using the celebratory greeting: “May the fourth be with you”, a play on the film’s favourite line: “May the force be with you”.

The Star Wars episode will air on 1 May on CBS in the US, with a UK air date yet to be confirmed.
