Coronation Street reigned supreme at this year's British Soap Awards, walking away with a total of nine awards.

The long-running soap won accolades across most of the big categories at last night's ceremony.

David Neilson was given the award for Best Actor and Julie Hesmondhalgh took home the award for Best Actress.

The pair also jointly received an award in the Best On-Screen Partnership category. They have played husband and wife Roy and Hayley Cropper on the show for 16 years.

Coronation Street won in the Best Storyline category for Hayley death.

The duo's joint performance also earned them a Bafta Award last week in the Soap and Continuing Drama category.

But Coronation Street lost out to Hollyoaks in the Best Soap category, the soap won three awards in total. Hollyoaks actress Anna Passey, who plays Sienna Blake, won the award for Best Villain. While Ellis Hollins won the Best Young Performance award for his role as Tom Cunningham.

It was a surprisingly quiet night for EastEnders, which only came away with two awards, one for Best Newcomer and Outstanding Achievement (Off screen).
