Cory Monteith’s father has spoken about his son’s death, claiming he was not invited to the cremation ceremony.

Joe Monteith, who divorced Monteith’s mother Ann McGregor when the actor was seven, told TMZ he was “totally devastated” not to be invited to his son’s cremation.

He claims he did not find out about the service until after the cremation happened on Tuesday.

Joe, a member of the military, told the US gossip site: “I always loved both my sons and am going to miss Cory very very much. I’m saddened at the fact that I couldn’t have been there to see my son before he was cremated.”

The actor’s body was released to his mother Ann on Tuesday after the autopsy, which confirmed the actor died of substance abuse.

Glee star Monteith, 31, died in his hotel room in Vancouver on Saturday. The coroner’s report revealed he died of a heroin and alcohol overdose. A statement said: “There is no evidence at this time to suggest Monteith’s death was anything other than a most tragic accident.”

The actor spoke of his relationship with his father in an interview with Parade magazine in 2011. The pair were reunited in 2009, the same year that Cory began his role in Glee as Finn Hudson.

He said: “We’d spoken maybe three of four times [during the period] and he reached out to me on Facebook. I couldn’t shut the door, so I got on a plane. He greeted me at the airport…it was a good time.”
