Courtney Love is set to make an appearance in the final season of Sons of Anarchy, it has been confirmed.

The controversial US singer, 49, has been cast as a primary school teacher in the seventh series of the hit FX show about a Californian motorbike club.

She will play the blunt Ms Harrison who teaches lead character Jax Teller’s eldest son Abel in a "pivotal, multi-episode" arc.

Love, who found fame as the frontwoman of grunge girl band Hole and the wife of Kurt Cobain, plans to take a hiatus from music to focus on her acting career.

She earned a Golden Globe nomination for her role as junkie Althea in 1996’s The People vs. Larry Flynt and later featured in an episode of Nice Brothers.

Love will join Marilyn Manson in the new series of Sons of Anarchy, with the notorious rock star due to take on the role of prison shot-caller Ron Tully in September.

Manson is also no stranger to movies, having made his film debut in David Lynch’s Lost Highway and made cameo appearances in Party Monster and Jawbreaker.

Walton Goggins will return to Sons of Anarchy as transgender prostitute Venus Van Dam.
