First look: Trailer released for Gavin and Stacey American remake Us & Them

From Barry to smalltown Pennsylvania? Top shows British cast of Gavin And Stacey; bottom shows Jason Ritter and Alexis Bledel in the American version (BBC/ PA)

Meet Gavin from New York and Stacey from small town Pennsylvania.

It’s a long way from Billericay and Barry, but the trailer for Us & Them, the US version of Gavin and Stacey, looks to stay faithful to the British original.

The main characters are understood to keep the same names in the US adaptation, with Parenthood actor Jason Ritter as Gavin and Mad Men and Gilmore Girls actress Alexis Bledel as Stacey.

Jane Kaczmarek, who starred as Lois in Malcolm in the Middle, plays Gavin’s overbearing, inappropriate mother Pamela, brought to life by Alison Steadman in the British original.

Ruth Jones had previously stamped out rumours about a US version of the hit British comedy, but will now serve with co-creator James Corden and Steve Coogan as executive producers of the show, which has been snapped up by Fox.

The series is being made by Sony Pictures Television as well as BBC Worldwide.
