Game of Thrones showrunners say you can tell Jon Snow is dead from his eyes

They also joked about killing off Tyrion

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jon Snow’s dead in Game of Thrones. We know. We all heard you the first 500 times. That, however, hasn’t stopped fans speculating (and speculating and speculating) that the Stark will be back in some way.

Elaborating on their previous comments that Jon Snow is dead, co-creators and showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss once again reaffirmed how “Jon Snow is dead”, adding that you can see it in his eyes.

“If you look at his eyes there,” Benioff told Variety. “We spent a lot of time … ”

“We spent good money on this,” interjected Weiss. “Your pupillary muscles relax when your body gives up.”

Benioff added: “Like your sphincter”.

Weiss explained what his co-creator meant by this, explaining how “It is called a ‘pupillary sphincter,’ as a matter of fact, we looked this up on the Internets and it said that your pupillary sphincter relaxes and that your eyes dilate, and if you look carefully, Jon’s pupil dilates — the one that’s in the light dilates.”

Two things to take away: Jon Snow’s dead, we’re certain of that. Whether he’ll be reanimated is another discussion altogether.

Second, the show’s creators are loving the fact they can mess with fans, talking about sphincters and adding how the body “lets out gas” when it stops.

In the same interview, the pair joked about killing off fan favourite Tyrion: “It’s easy to kill," Benioff said. "Creating a new character, you’ve got to service their whole backstory. Killing is just a line: ‘Head explodes.’ Done.”

Weiss added: “'Tyrion dies.' The end.” Of course, in the show's current climate, anything could happen.

In other ‘Jon Snow is dead’ news, Ser Allisar Throne actor Owen Teale explained why his character has a deep-seated hatred for Snow. HBO’s president also went out of his way to say that they were ‘not manipulating fans’ by using Snow on the poster.

All will be revealed in season six, which starts 24 April.
