Game of Thrones plot hole 'discovered' that could have changed how final season went down

In fairness, it would have made things far less tense

Game of Thrones fans have unearthed a huge plot hole that could have made the series end in a far more convenient manner.

In George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, it is known that the rare material dragonglass is a handy thing to have when battling White Walkers.

In the penultimate season of the HBO show, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) comes across a mine of the substance when visiting the ancestral home of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke), which helps with the Night King battle in the season eight; their weapons are forged from the dragonglass found in the mine.

Some Reddit users have pointed out, though, that there was enough for a larger number of weapons, including arrows that could have helped obliterate large swathes of the Night King’s army as they arrived at Winterfell.

“On Dragonstone, we see that there is plenty of dragonglass, but for some reason, no-one thought to make dragonglass arrowheads,” the Redditor wrote.

“Arrows would be a smart choice because they could kill wights/white walkers (and maybe even the Night King) without hand-to-hand combat and in one shot. They would have come in handy with massive zombie ice dragon, tbh. With the arrows, they could easily kill zombie Viserion too.”

It’s a good point and one that was echoed by another fan, who stated that this was the route they thought writers would go down after showing Jon find some dragonglass arrowheads.

“I thought that’s what was going to happen – [they would] mass-produce dragonglass arrows,” a fan responded.

However, relying on arrows would have presented a big issue for the Winterfell army.

“When you shoot an arrow, you’re likely not getting it back,” one fan replied. “So it's a one and done with the dragonglass, especially when for the most part a flaming arrow would do the job for the wights.”
