Dyer reveals his disappointment on The Jonathan Ross Show tonight

He might be one of the most popular EastEnders regulars, but Danny Dyer has failed to make the cut for Game of Thrones.

The English actor has revealed that he has tried out not once, not twice, but three times for the hit HBO fantasy drama.

Dyer appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show alongside Dame Diana Rigg, who plays Lady Olenna Tyrell in the popular series.

“I’ve been up for it three times, I got three knockbacks,” he told Ross, before Rigg joked that she would “put in a word as long as you lose the cockney act”.

Dyer added that he would love to play a “cockney” James Bond and replace martinis with “half a lager shaken not stirred”, then move onto some of the big BBC dramas.

“I think I could do Sherlock, I think it’s a great role,” he said. “Doctor Who, something like that…I don’t think it’s about accent, I think it’s about charisma and I think it’s about personality.”

The first full-length Game of Thrones season five trailer debuted today, sadly minus Dyer, ahead of the show’s April return.

Dyer won Best Serial Drama Performance at the National Television Awards earlier this month for his role as Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter.

Dyer is on The Jonathan Ross Show sofa this coming Saturday at 9.20pm on ITV.
